Grandpa's weird catfish bait actually worked! 🧼
Found my grandpa's old tackle box and couldn't stop laughing at what was inside - chunks of blue Zest soap wrapped in foil! Thought the old man had lost it until my buddy explained that soap used to be a legit catfish bait. Turns out channel cats don't care if it's "natural" - they just follow strong scent trails. Grandpa also doused his chicken livers with WD-40, which sounds crazy but makes perfect sense now. These days I stick to hot dogs when my shad runs out. Growing up in the 50’s we used something called doughball . When I was in military down South everyone used ( you ready for this) Shrimp !they go crazy for it

A Grain of Salt
As a side note : My neighbor is a DNR officer and he told me a cute encounter he once had. He was on river patrol when he encountered two smoking hotties in teeny tiny bikinis fishing from the bank of the Grand River. he composed himself and announced he needed to see their fishing licenses to which they replied they weren't fishing and reeled in their lines to show him instead of hooks and bait they had magnets tied to the lines. scratching his head he shrugged and bid them a good day, as he got about 50ft away he overheard them laughing and saying..silly man, doesn't he know the steelhead are running 🤔🇺🇸✌️••• -

chicken skin n hot sauce..never fails..if run out used bread balls dipped in tartar sauce it left a streak after it hit water..🍽️🍻
