After years of backpacking and even pulling off two successful thru-hikes, my trail food strategy has definitely changed. I've discovered a high-calorie protein bar is the only thing I can manage for breakfast with my coffee, even though I generally can't stand protein bars. And don't even get me started on peanut butter packets or oatmeal; I just really dislike them both. Being celiac also means a lot of popular hiker meals like tortillas and ramen are completely out for me. My absolute favorite lunch has become a simple combo of cheese, meat, and crackers.
