Spotted a snake in the garden...

Got within six feet and didn’t hear a single rattle. Executed a smooth retreat—zero screaming, zero drama. Just pure tactical withdrawal. Those who live in rattlesnake country do not take finding one so lightly. They are not a fun snake, especially hidden in the garden like that. We have had animals bitten by them and they make them very sick where we lived the rattlers would come in the yard for water or shade. They did not live if we saw them.

We used to hunt them when I was a teenager out at Possum Kingdom Lake. Caught about a dozen or so. Looking back, it wasn't the best decisions we ever made. But it was pretty fun.

I was sitting on our porch and one came slithering out from under the porch! I can only imagine what would’ve happened if one of my dogs had gotten bit! Veterinary doctors do have snake bit vaccines.

Luckily most of the snakes around here are not poisonous. In the spring I see them slithering out of our siding. And I leave water out for them.
