Detroit’s own Tiffany Brockington proves what happens when Black children are truly centered in their education. Growing up, she experienced both Eurocentric and African-centered schools—and the difference was life-changing. At Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse, every lesson was rooted in Black history, culture, and pride, building confidence and a sense of belonging that still shapes her work as an educator today. Meanwhile, most Detroit students still learn in classrooms where their heritage is an afterthought. If other communities can have culturally specific schools, why not Detroit’s Black youth? What would our city look like if every child was taught to see themselves as a star? #Education #DetroitEducation #BlackHistory
