Cancer survivor faces $74K bill from Social Security

Well here is how I understand it either right or wrong. Let's say you get 1500 a month from social security and then work part-time and earn 500 a month part-time. Technically you are only allowed to receive a 1000 dollars from social security because you earn 500 that comes from your job and you get 1500 a month. That is why it is a overpayment. 🤔

I went on disability at age 62 and a half. After 25 months I was put on Medicare although I was not yet 65. The way I understand the rules are that you can make any amount of money while on disability under the ticket to work program for 9 months in a 5-year. after that, your disability is affected. once you hit the 9th month you cannot make more then $1,620 gross wages. You do have to turn in pay information to social security every month.👍

My son had stage 4 cancer in both lungs, colon, and his liver. He was denied disability and had to fight for it, even though he couldn't even walk without help. Also denied Medicaid and food stamps. There is something seriously wrong with the system.

If you are deemed disabled, younger than full retirement age, and receive SSDI-you can not work. You are disabled.
If you are retired, not disabled, of full retirement age, that’s SSI from what I understood when SSA explained it to me.
SSI recipients are allowed to work so many hours. Can’t remember off hand.

went on disability because of kidney issues received a transplant 1 month out of the hospital they said I owed 78000 in overpayments.. took over a year and not being able to recuperate well to get this issued half way solved...and still not done!!!!!

on SSI you can earn $80 without your check being effected. anything over that they take 50 cent of the dollar. what I made in July 1600.00 my check for Sept. was 159.00 they took 800.00 I'm no longer working it was too much and I used that to get an apt. pd 800 sec 800 first months rent now I don't have Sept. rent and looking at being homeless again.

Social security is a mess. If it doesn't exist when I get older they better pay me back.
