His kids and household should come first. That's why he asked her to get a job. He could have just given his brother money out of his paycheck and took $ away from his family. Brother took care of their mom for years and used money meant for his education because the husband was struggling and couldn't contribute. Now that the husband is better off, he wants to help his brother realize his dream of college. Husband is not being selfish.
