My archery hunt turned into a rattlesnake showdown 🫠

Still can't believe what happened on opening day last season. I'm settled against a tree when I hear something moving through the leaves. Figured it was an armadillo until two massive timber rattlers came "dancing" right past my boots. I stood up too fast - one stopped and coiled. Panic shot three arrows into the dirt next to it, then had to walk home empty-handed while it sat there guarding my gear. Came back after dark with a shotgun and flashlight. Got both snakes since they're overpopulated here and dangerous for my kids and cattle. Plus, rattlesnake actually tastes pretty good. Never had an encounter mess up a hunt quite like that before. I had something similar happen to me. I was hunting whitetail deer near Brady, Texas many years ago. It was archery season and hot. I was sitting up in a tree blind when I saw an armadillo moving around in the brush. Evidently he ran across a rattler and I could hear that snake buzzing from 40 yards away. Stopped watching for deer and started watching for the snake. I knew when it started getting dark that I would have to climb down and walk back to my pickup. Which I did but was puckered up all the way!🤪 Happy Hunting!

I saw a giant rattlesnake when I was hunting. I walked 3 feet out of my way and continued on with my day.

Stayed on one of my hunts during the bow season until to dark to shoot. We do that sometimes because we want to see what we heard. On my way back to my atv I could see an hear the rattler in the road. Shot two arrows and only one left and I only made him mad now he is laying in the middle of the logging road rattling. 🙀👽🤯he is between me and my atv. Everything that I can see straight and dark looks like a snake to me. Good thing I had a sharp pocket knife to cut a small pine tree, not too run him off but to take care of him for good.

ì encountered a cottonmouth on a limb right at head high. i was working my way through thick brush when i grabbed the limb in front of me, then the limb moved. i looked up and was nose to nose with it. you could tell it was about to shed so i slowly backed away. i couldnt shoot it because the rest of the hunters were in front of me. that was one lucky snake.
