I'm old enough to remember when HIV was first discovered. i was just a kd at the time ( I was nine or ten years old then ) , and what the news media reported was beyond terrifying in the earliest days. Of course, it didn't have a name and they knew very little about it. They branded it as a " gay man's disease ". You can imagine the collective ' shock ' when that was proven wrong a short time later. Today, those fighting HIV can and DO live happy, long, and successful lives. I'm so happy that medically, anyway, we've come so far. Unfortunately, I'm not too sure that, educationally , we have . Especially after having read some of the comments here.
