I work as an engineer in the Bay Area. I saved for five years to buy my first home, but prices skyrocketed recently. The agent told me the rental market has been pushed up partly by an influx of low-income immigrant renters, driving landlords to raise prices or sell. I’m no expert, but I feel the squeeze. Rent and taxes keep going up, but I see no added benefit. I don’t oppose immigration. I just hope policies don’t expand blindly but consider what people like me are facing.
