I know how it is like. my mother had dementia at 85, three years after my father died. She would wander out of the house while I was off at work. I would put a cardboard pacard around ER with her name, address, my name & my daytime c.b.r. Finally , in 2005, she wandered out of the house & had a stroke. The ambulance took her to the hospital & before discharging, the Social Worker told me that if she wanders out & the police are called again, then I would go to prison for elderly neglect. Rather than going prison & facing prison justice, I put her in a nursing home, because I could not trust a stranger to care for her in my own home. She stayed in the nursing home until her death @ on 93 years of age.I also visited her almost every day.
