you can't get food stamps or medicaid if you own or are leasing a BMW. depends on this BMW we speak of. was it a used car or brand new? the amount of BMWs you can get as cheap as a Honda accord after its high miles and noooo maintenance has been performed. my neighbor used to buy a new used one every few years for 1,000. they would look clean outside but inside was trashed and usually full of problems from the prior owners never maintaining them. Not that well off folks havent gone to pantries to not spend what they have, but id be hesitant to judge they could have lost their job after paying off the car. I had just gotten a nice new used truck, 2 years later into the financing Covid lock downs happened and I lost my bartending job since the world was closed. I did have enough savings to ride into that until my boss reopened only for rennovations and i made significantly less wasn't as lucrative and it truly pushed me to the edge keeping up with the payments. Often we are only one disaster away from losing it all.
