I had the flu for almost 2 months and my doctor prescribed the maximum dose of Prednisone intending to prevent pneumonia but it caused extreme psychosis. After a very bad mental episode, my wife had me committed. A total of 5 doctors came all through the night and asked the same stupid questions. Fortunately, the head of the mental health department made her rounds and when she talked with me she noticed I had a really bad, hacky cough. She asked if I had the flu and if I had been given Prednisone, which I had. She said high doses of Prednisone can cause psychosis. She processed my discharge paperwork and I was out of there in 30 minutes. After 5 other doctors failed to make the connection, I was fortunate she knew what she was doing. I quit the Prednisone and returned quickly to normal mental condition. Not every doctor cares or has the depth of knowledge that they should. Sounds like this little girl was 'processed' instead of being treated and it cost her her life. So very sad.
