I built two raised beds with “premium garden soil” from the store. They looked perfect, but nothing thrived. Turns out, bagged soil compacts over time. Roots can’t breathe, water pools on top, and nutrients don’t penetrate. A local gardener named Sheila suggested a mix: 50% compost 25% topsoil 25% coarse sand or perlite We also added 2–3 inches of mulch on top to retain moisture and prevent weeds. The difference was night and day. Tomatoes grew thick stems, basil exploded, and carrots actually reached full length. Sometimes it’s not the plants — it’s the soil. Invest in structure, not just nutrients. #Gardening #RaisedBeds
