This is my youngest daughter. She’s fourteen, and this summer marks her second year at a job she found all on her own. She picked the place, printed her resume, and walked right in. When they didn’t call, she didn’t give up. She called them twice, then went back in to ask if they’d looked at her resume yet. They hadn’t, but they asked if she could interview right then. She said yes. She got the job. Now she works every shift they give her. She even pinned a note on the staff board saying if anyone needs a day off, she’ll cover. She washes dishes and toilets, mops floors, serves customers, handles money, and makes coffees and smoothies that people rave about. It’s not a fancy job, but she’s proud of it. She saves seventy percent of every paycheck because she wants to be a doctor someday. The rest she spends on a computer and a little fun with friends. She’s learning what it means to show up, to work hard, to earn her own way. And every single day, she makes me proud beyond words. Credit - animal discovery
