In the 1990s, singer Dionne Warwick invited Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records boss Suge Knight to her home for an early-morning meeting after becoming concerned about misogynistic language toward women in rap lyrics. Warwick confronted the group directly and challenged them to say the insult they used in songs to her face. She also warned them to think about how their words would sound to their future children, especially daughters. Snoop later described the encounter as a turning point, saying that even though they were seen as tough at the time, Warwick’s calm authority “out-gangstered” them that day.
