I run a small dry cleaning shop downtown. Tuesday morning, a guy walked in holding a crumpled, stained suit jacket. He looked exhausted. He asked how much to just press it. Not clean it, just press it. He had $4 in his hand. I asked what the occasion was. "Job interview at 2 PM," he said, looking at the floor. "I’ve been living out of my car for a month. I just need to look sharp." I took the jacket. I didn't just press it. I spot-cleaned it, steamed it, and gave him a matching tie from my lost-and-found bin. Handed it back at 1 PM. He asked what he owed me. "Just a phone call when you get the job," I said. He called me yesterday. He starts Monday. Have you ever had a stranger step in right when you needed it most?
