Most people quote this when life gets overwhelmingly hard. It sounds encouraging. It sounds like a compliment to your strength. But it is actually a misquote of 1 Corinthians 10:13, which is about temptation, not suffering. In fact, the Apostle Paul says the exact opposite about hardship. In 2 Corinthians, he writes that they were "crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure." That matters, because when you are drowning in grief, debt, or illness, being told "you can handle this" feels like a crushing weight. Scripture doesn’t promise you won’t be overwhelmed. It promises that when you are, you aren't meant to carry it alone. God doesn't trust your strength. He asks you to trust His. If you feel like breaking today, you haven't failed. You are just finally ready to be held.
