The Ford Mustang is often linked to March 9, 1964, when the first production model rolled off the assembly line at Ford’s Dearborn plant in Michigan. Two dates are important: March 9, 1964 → the first Mustang was built. April 17, 1964 → The Mustang was officially unveiled to the public at the New York World's Fair. Because of this timing, the earliest models are often called “1964½ Mustangs”, produced before the official 1965 model year. In just 18 months, Ford sold over 1 million Mustangs, launching the famous American “pony car” category.
