In 1968, after Sean Connery quit, Australian model and car salesman George Lazenby decided he wanted to play James Bond. With no previous film acting experience, he dressed the part perfectly: he got his hair cut at Connery’s own barber, bought a Rolex Submariner watch, and wore a Savile Row suit from Connery’s tailor that had never been collected. Lazenby then lied about having film credits and boldly talked his way into meetings with producers Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman. His confidence won them over. Even after confessing the truth to director Peter Hunt, he was encouraged to stick with the act. This incredible bluff landed him the role in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), making him the only Bond actor with no previous film experience.
