John 5:24 “The Son is able to do nothing of Himself, of His own accord; but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing“… “The Father dearly loves the Son and discloses to Him everything that He Himself does“… “Just as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whomever He will“… “So that all men may give honor to the Son just as they give honor to the Father”. Jesus tells us, not only who He is but explains the relationship between Himself and the Father. He encourages us to listen to His message, to hear what He’s saying and believe. Those whose ears are open to His Words and believe in the One Who sent Him… now has eternal life. Does knowing we possess eternal life now change anything… how we live our lives? It’s not just a rack we hang our hope on… for future use, when we need it. Does it make more sense to live a spirit-led life, one where the flesh is under the control of the spirit … now? “Life is more important than food and the body is more important than clothes… ” and “…whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake, will save it”. Jesus is teaching what might be a hard thing about priorities… about faith, and trust and eternal life. Our miraculous, although temporary, bodies hold that which is eternal. Those who believe in and trust in God have eternal life. Knowing that changes who we are… our love, our patience, our compassion and mercy are reflections, imitations of the One Who gives us life, Who lives in us. Lord, we need You… Your Light, Your Life lives in us… help us to bring our flesh into obedience of the spirit. Thank you for glimpses of our eternity, help us to live as sons and daughters of the one true King. Help us to live in light of Your Truth.
