Day 3: Why Letting Go Can Feel So Hard For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV Focusing on what you can control sounds simple—until fear enters the picture. Many people discover the urge to control situations grows out of past experiences. A painful loss, a difficult season, or an unexpected crisis can leave a lasting mark. After walking through something like that, it’s natural to want life to feel predictable again. You may find yourself trying to manage every detail, hoping careful planning will prevent more pain. And that response makes sense. Yet carrying that level of control eventually becomes exhausting. God did not give you a spirit ruled by fear. His Spirit leads you toward power, love, and self-discipline—the ability to pause, to pray, and to respond thoughtfully instead of reacting from anxiety. When you place your trust in God, uncertainty can remain, but it changes how you carry those uncertainties. As fear loosens its grip, your hands begin to open. Instead of trying to manage every outcome, you can place those concerns in God’s hands. Reflect Think back to a time when things went "wrong." How is that memory influencing how tightly you are holding onto your current situation? Does your desire for control usually manifest as perfectionism (trying to be right) or protectionism (trying to be safe)? How does the truth that God gives you a sound mind change the way you look at your biggest fear? Pray God, You know the experiences that have shaped my fears. Help me recognize when anxiety begins guiding my decisions. Replace fear with trust and lead me toward wise responses. Once we address our own fears, we often see how they’ve spilled over into our homes. Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the difference between managing the people we love and truly influencing them.
