What is the sin that prevents you from attaining the righteousness of God? That is the question that demands our attention. Even during Jesus’ time, the Pharisees, scribes, and priests had their own definitions of sins that separated individuals from God’s righteousness. Even churches have established rules within their congregations outlining what a Christian should and should not do. However, neither of these entities comprehends the sin that condemns all humanity. The sin that separates us and condemns us is explicitly mentioned within the scriptures. Why have they failed to grasp this truth? They have been misled by the doctrines of men rather than the teachings of God. It is written that God would reprove man of sin, meaning He would teach us about the sin that condemns us all. The sin that separates and condemns us is the result of our lack of faith in His Son. Let us examine the following verse to comprehend this sin: John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; The sin of unbelief is the sin that condemns you and prevents you from attaining God’s righteousness. This is the only sin that leads to eternal punishment. The Holy Spirit was sent to us to bear witness to the truth. When He enters your heart by the will of God to reveal your sin, and you reject His truth, you blaspheme the Holy Spirit. By rejecting the truth, you are standing against the Witness of God. Christ said that if you speak against the Father or the Son, it will be forgiven you. However, if you speak against the Holy Spirit, it will never be forgiven you. By rejecting the truth, you are speaking against the one who was sent to bear witness to the truth.
