Originally created as a medicinal tonic, the syrup was taken to Jacobs’ Pharmacy, where it was mixed with carbonated water and sold for just 5 cents a glass. Pemberton’s bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson, is credited with naming the drink “Coca-Cola” and designing the famous flowing logo that is still recognized worldwide today. Ironically, Pemberton never saw the enormous success of his invention. He died only two years later, while businessman Asa Candler eventually transformed Coca-Cola into a global empire. What started as a simple backyard experiment in 1886 became one of the most iconic brands in modern history.
