I Peter 4:8 Solomon teaches his son godly wisdom, “Hatred stirs up contention, but love covers all transgressions”. In agreement, Peter reminds us of the power love holds over all creation. Love reveals its power through random acts of kindness, forgiveness…compassion, mercy, and grace. Peter refers to the power in the intensity of Love and its unfailing qualities to not only cover a multitude of sins but to forgive them as well. This gets personal as it includes sins committed against us. Love covers the sin of someone who never acknowledges it, never says “I’m sorry“. This kind of love requires a humility not of this world. This kind of love is sacrificial, selfless, and long suffering. Peter writes “But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self restrained and alert, therefore, for the practice of prayer” and above all things love deeply… without fail. There are no exceptions, no special circumstances to which that deep love does not apply. The world will have a different opinion, the temptation to be angry and hate those who hurt us is intense, but not as intense as the love living in us. The world would have us believe love fails, relationships fracture, a spirit of Disappointment is ready to render us helpless, trust is abandoned and walls within our hearts are built. Walls intended to keep the Light, the love from shining through. What a web of deceit our enemy weaves around us, holding us captive from our first Love. Breaking through isn’t easy, but it does take a complete surrender to the One Who’s able to shatter the darkness. The One Who leads us to the Light. Without Him, we can’t love like He does. It’s Him in us…His power and strength is required to experience and show an unfailing, intense love. His love is the catalyst for creation. His love gave birth to mercy and grace, His love caused Him to step down from heaven and be the perfect sacrifice. His love loved us while we were yet sinners, and every day after
