I’ve struggled my whole life with feeling like I’m never anyone's first choice. Always the backup friend, the overlooked sibling, the unappreciated spouse. I was crying over my Bible this morning and landed on the story of Leah. Jacob worked seven years to marry her beautiful sister, Rachel. Leah was the "ugly" sister, tricked into the marriage by her father. Jacob hated being married to her. She spent years having babies just hoping her husband would finally love her. She was totally unwanted by the world. But Genesis 29:31 says: "When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, he opened her womb." God didn't look away from her rejection. He stepped right into her humiliation and blessed her so profoundly that Jesus Christ Himself chose to descend from Leah’s bloodline, not Rachel’s.
