Not everyone shows it when they’re struggling with their mental health or experiencing suicidal thoughts. Some people crack a joke while they’re hurting inside. Some laugh loudly with friends so nobody notices how much they’re struggling. Some stay busy with work, school, or responsibilities to keep their mind occupied. Some keep checking on everyone else while quietly struggling to cope themselves. Some smile and say, “I’m fine,” because it feels easier than explaining what they’re going through. You don’t always see the battles people are carrying, including the thoughts of suicide they may be struggling with. That’s why kindness matters. It doesn’t fix everything, but it can be a reminder that someone isn’t invisible and that they don’t have to carry everything alone. A little patience, a softer word, a small act of care—it can go further than you think.
