Romans 8:6 “…that is because the mind of the flesh, with its carnal thoughts and purposes is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God‘s law; indeed it cannot. So then those who are living the life of the flesh, catering to the appetite and impulses of their carnal nature, cannot please God or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him’. The question would be, as a believer, do we live somewhere in between where part of our life belongs to the world and part of our life surrendered to God? As a believer, is ‘straddling the fence’ an option? Does God share a heart with the enemy? When faced with the decision, Joshua can be heard saying “…As for me and my house we will serve the Lord“. Scripture tells us we can’t serve two masters. Paul reminds us we’re slaves to one of two things, slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness. We can’t be both. We either belong to God or we belong to Satan, there is no middle ground. Just as a little yeast affects the entire lump of dough, so just a little sin affects our entire being. If we’re sold out to Jesus, we’re no longer controlled by unholy desires. We no longer pursue fleshly gratification. We’re controlled by the desires of the Spirit, we set our mind on and seek things which gratify the Spirit… we want what He wants, our desires lineup with His. And then the peace He provides is ours, not a world, peace, but a soul peace. Peace that transcends all understanding, a peace that’s satisfied knowing the security in eternal salvation. Peace, a gift from God that can’t be stolen. Lord, we’ve made our choice. We surrender everything we are to You. Help us not to get distracted by the things of this world, but to focus on you, eternal things, and Your purpose for our lives. Change our hearts, O God, make us more like You.
