San Francisco startup Tau Robotics is offering home-cleaning visits using two humanoid robots for $60 per hour. The robots, named Bolo and Sergey, are based on Unitree hardware. MarketWatch reported on October 17, 2026, that each robot costs around $55,000 before modifications. They can vacuum floors, mop and help load dishes into a dishwasher. However, they still struggle with delicate objects and tasks such as folding laundry. The robots are remotely controlled by human operators, so they cannot yet clean homes independently. The service is currently available by invitation in San Francisco, and an adult must remain at home during the visit. Tau records cleaning sessions to train its AI models. Customers can request deletion of recordings, but footage already used to train a model cannot be removed from its learned parameters, according to the company’s privacy policy. The service shows how humanoid robots are beginning to handle household chores, but human control remains essential. Source: Tau Robotics.
