When Your Dog Grieves Harder Than You
So, my rabbit died last month. I thought I was the only one taking it hard, but turns out, my parrot is on a whole different level. Every night, he flies over to the empty cage, perches on top, and just... sits there. Sometimes he lets out these weird, soft whistles—totally unlike his usual screeching. I caught him nudging the rabbit’s old chew toy the other day, and honestly, it broke me a little.
I keep wondering if he’s actually mourning or if I’m just projecting my own feelings onto him. But they were inseparable—like, the parrot would literally feed the rabbit snacks (sometimes against his will). Now, it’s just silence and sad whistles. Anyone else ever seen pets grieve for each other? Or am I losing it?
Pet loss is rough, but watching another pet grieve? That’s a whole new level of heartbreak.
