Hollywood’s Only Asian Best Actress Nominee Hid Her True Heritage All Her Life, Used Skin Bleaching

I just learned something really wild about classic Hollywood. Merle Oberon, the actress, She was actually born in Bombay in 1911 but spent her whole career claiming she was born to white parents in Tasmania. She was the only Asian Best Actress Oscar nominee. To make it in Hollywood and deal with all that prejudice, she used skin bleaching and completely reinvented herself. She kept her real heritage a secret right up until after she died. It wasn't until 1985 that her true origins finally came out in a biography called Princess Merle. That same year her nephew Michael Korda even wrote a fictionalized version of her life called Queenie which later became a TV miniseries. As one writer Mayukh Sen put it she spent her life navigating an industry that was not designed to accommodate her. Yet she still produced such moving work while fighting all those battles. It just makes you think about what people had to go through. #MerleOberon #HiddenHistory #HollywoodHistory #Oscars #Asian #Heritage

All you should know about "Dorayaki"

The Origin of Dorayaki: The General’s Gift of a Copper Gong. In the Edo Period, a general gifted a copper gong from his troops to a benefactor. The benefactor was poor and used the gong as a frying pan to make snacks. By accident, he created these delicious round treats that looked like gongs, and that’s how they got the name “Dorayaki.” Shape and Texture: Dorayaki is named for its gong-like shape. It’s usually two round, soft pancakes stuck together. They’re fluffy and smell like honey and eggs. The pancakes are cooked just right—neither too dry nor too soggy. Fillings: The traditional filling is red bean paste, but there are also creative flavors like cream, chocolate, strawberry, and matcha. #Food knowledge #Asian cuisine #Desserts

Authentic Brown Sugar Sesame Baked Buns Recipes

In Chinese called "Bing", featuring many flaky layers, with a crispy exterior and a soft, sweet, and fragrant interior. With each bite, you get a burst of sweet, fragrant juices! My favorite! 🧾 Ingredients 🔸 Dough: 200g all-purpose flour + 120ml warm water 🔸 Filling: 50g brown sugar powder + an appropriate amount of sesame paste 👩🍳 Beginner's Guide 1️⃣ Knead and Rest the Dough Add warm water gradually to the flour, stirring until it forms a shaggy mass. Then knead into a smooth dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes (this makes the dough softer!). 2️⃣ Prepare the Filling Mix brown sugar powder with sesame paste until well combined. 3️⃣ Shape the Dumplings Divide the dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a wrapper, similar to a bun skin. Place the brown sugar filling in the center and pinch the edges to seal it tightly. Place the seam side down and gently press it into a flat round shape. 4️⃣ Pan-fry the Pancakes Brush a non-stick pan with a little oil and heat over low heat. Fry the pancakes until they are golden brown and puffed up on both sides (cover with a lid and steam for 1 minute in the middle to make the skin crispier). #Asian Cuisine #Recipes #Share my food
