Is this normal? contractor cut a notch into our quartz shower ledge for glass install

We’re remodeling our bathroom, and I’m currently away while my wife is handling things at home. The contractor had told us multiple times that the glass would be cut to fit the wall. But when the installers showed up, my wife said they were doing a lot of drilling and cutting with zero explanation. And I came back, found out they just notched into the quartz top of our pony wall to let the glass pass through. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Worse, the glass sits almost 1cm above the quartz, and they just jammed silicone in the gap. It looks messy and nothing like what we were told. When I called the contractor, all I got was: “This is normal.” No explanation, no alternative offered. Is this actually standard practice? Couldn’t they have cut the glass instead of damaging our quartz? Trying to figure out if we’re being taken for a ride here, or if this is really the only way it could’ve been done. #HomeImprovement #Renovation #BathroomRemodel #ContractorProblems #QuartzCountertops #ShowerDesign #Home #HomeDecor
