Death Lies & Alibis+Follow🚨 SHE WAS “BECCA DOE” FOR 35 YEARS — UNTIL COLLEGE STUDENTS HELPED GIVE HER NAME BACK 🚨 For more than three decades, nobody knew who she was. The young woman known only as “Becca Doe” has finally been identified as 18-year-old Becca Mallekoote, ending a mystery that stretched back to 1991. Becca was found dead inside an Albuquerque motel room after traveling there with a man who was later interviewed by police. Her death was ruled a suicide, but despite years of investigation involving local police and the FBI, her identity remained unknown. Everything changed when students and staff at Ramapo College’s Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center joined the case. Using DNA analysis, genealogy databases, and family tree research, the students worked alongside law enforcement to trace possible relatives connected to the unidentified woman. Within days of receiving DNA matches in early 2026, the Ramapo team identified Becca as a potential match. Authorities later confirmed her identity through family DNA testing on what would have been her 53rd birthday. The Ramapo program has now helped identify 24 previously unidentified people since launching in 2022 — showing how a group of students helped solve a cold case that had remained unanswered for 35 years. #ColdCase #BeccaDoe #TrueCrime #BreakingNews #Justice Source: USA TODAY | Albuquerque Police Department | Ramapo College 00Share
