At just seven years old, she witnessed the destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood district—once known as “Black Wall Street”—by a white mob that killed hundreds and razed 35 city blocks. Fletcher spent her later years testifying before Congress, advocating for reparations, and publishing her memoir Don’t Let Them Bury My Story.
