Did I Adopt a Cat or a Tiny Wild Beast?
So, I found this kitten with a tail so short it’s basically a punctuation mark, and a face that screams, “I could take you.” Naturally, I googled, “Is my cat part bobcat?” Turns out, science says nope—no verified bobcat/house cat hybrids. Apparently, even if your cat looks like it bench presses for fun, it’s probably just a regular (but extra spicy) domestic cat.
Fun fact: DNA tests exist, but you can’t just order one off Amazon yet. And if your kitten’s urine smells like a horror movie, get to a vet ASAP—bobcat or not, that’s not normal.
Pixie-bobs? All hype, zero wild DNA. As for keeping a real bobcat as a pet, unless you live in a handful of US states and love paperwork, it’s a hard no.
Bottom line: Your fierce little furball is probably just a cat with attitude. But hey, that’s wild enough for most of us.
