La Farine - Oakland locals' top pick for a simple breakfast 🌞

La Farine is definitely a gem in Oakland, a tried and true bakery that's been around since 1977 and is open daily from 7AM to 6PM! The pricing is reasonable, especially in comparison to some of the new trending desserts online. Their fruit tarts are $27 and bread ranges from $3 to $4! They serve drip-filtered black coffee made from high-quality beans, at $2.70 for a small cup and $2.95 for a large one. You can customize your coffee with milk and sugar to your liking, and if you want to add more milk, just ask the staff to add less hot water! After dropping their kids at school, locals often stop by for a cup of coffee and a pastry, averaging at about $6 to $7, which is even cheaper than Starbucks! Breakfast must-haves: Croissant ($2.95), Frangipane ($3.75), Savory Morning Bun ($4.95). You can't go wrong pairing any of these with your coffee! Today's special: Frangipane + Peruvian Coffee ❤️! Also, the Challah ($4.95) - a large twisted bread - is a hit. The staff can slice it for you and it's perfect to make sandwiches with some spread and cheese! 📍La Farine Bakery 4094 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611 #LaFarine #OaklandEats #BreakfastSpot #BakeryLove #CoffeeLovers #FreshPastries #LocalFavorites #OaklandBakery

Pacific Bay Coffee in Walnut Creek, the Shanghai-style cafe

Big thanks to the buddy who recommended this gem! Finally got to visit this coffee house run by Shanghai folks in Walnut Creek. Been around Walnut Creek for ages so why have I not been here before? The reason: their opening hours; weekdays 6:30 am-3:00 pm, Saturdays 6:30 am-2:00 pm, and closed on Sundays. When I'm free, they're closed, so naturally, our paths didn't cross lol! But today, thanks to taking my pupper to the vet, I managed to grab a coffee during their opening hours! What I ordered: *Caramel Latte, $5.85/16oz! As anticipated, the coffee brewed by Chinese folks doesn't have such a strong Italian taste; it's subtly aromatic, merging with fresh milk and caramel, slightly sweet, really loved it! *Morning Glory Bread, $4.95! A healthy grain bread mixed with raisins, carrots, apples, and sunflower seeds, goes very well with coffee! Had a good look around the cafe and noticed quite a few awards on the wall. Turns out they have their own coffee roasting machine (see image 2, quite impressive), and their coffees have won several awards. If any buddies nearby are interested, you should give it a try, it’s our valley's hidden gem [blushReaction]! 📍Pacific Bay Coffee Co. 1495 Newell Ave, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 #PacificBayCoffee #WalnutCreek #ShanghaiStyleCafe #HiddenGem #CoffeeLovers #AwardWinningCoffee #MorningGloryBread #CaramelLatte

My Steps for a Perfect Pot of Coffee Every Time

Start with fresh, filtered water—trust me, it makes a difference. Avoid distilled or softened water since you want those minerals for flavor. Pick your favorite beans, but try to use them within a month of the roast date. I always go for Arabica for a smoother cup, but Robusta packs more caffeine if that’s your thing. Grind your beans right before brewing. For drip machines, a medium grind works best. Too fine or too coarse and you’ll notice the difference. Use about 2 tablespoons of grounds for every 6 ounces of water. Adjust to taste after your first try. Clean your equipment after every use. Old coffee oils and grounds can ruin the next batch. A quick soap and water rinse is all it takes. That’s it—enjoy your coffee while it’s hot! #CoffeeTips #HomeBrew #CoffeeLovers #Food #Cooking
