Navigating Hair Choices: Supporting My Daughter’s Self-Expression

Recently, my daughter asked if she could style her hair like some of her Black friends at school. At first, I hesitated, unsure if it would be seen as inappropriate or disrespectful. But then I remembered how much she admires her friends and how she sees their hairstyles as beautiful and fun. I want her to appreciate and celebrate diversity, but I also want to teach her about cultural sensitivity and respect. This has sparked some meaningful conversations in our family about identity, friendship, and the importance of understanding the stories behind different traditions.
