DIY Lump Charcoal: Grill Smarter, Not Harder

Find a safe outdoor spot for your fire—check local rules first. Grab a metal drum with a flame-proof lid. Fill it up with cured wood like oak or hickory, chopped into 4-inch pieces. Pack the drum tight, put the lid on (not airtight), and set it in the middle of your bonfire setup. Build a bonfire around the drum and keep it burning for 3-5 hours. Let it cool completely before opening. Open the drum and collect your homemade lump charcoal. It’s way cheaper than store-bought and works great for grilling.
