My DIY Sawbuck Cost Me More Than Firewood
I thought building my own sawbuck would save money. I spent two weekends, $70 on wood, $18 on bolts, and a chunk of my patience. The instructions made it sound simple—just cut some 2x4s, make a few X’s, bolt it together.
The first X was crooked. The second was worse. I tried to fix it, but the wood split. I kept going, thinking I could hide the mistakes. By the time I finished, the whole thing wobbled. I tried to cut a log, and the sawbuck nearly tipped over.
Now I have a pile of scrap wood, a bruised ego, and no firewood cut. Next time, I’ll just buy the cheap metal one. This cost me more than money.
