Whiskey Tasting: Savor Every Sip
Pour about a finger of whiskey into a glass—skip the plastic, go for a lowball or tulip-shaped glass to really catch those aromas.
Smell it a couple of times, keeping your mouth open. The first sniff is all alcohol, but after that, you’ll start to pick up notes like caramel or spice.
Take a small sip and roll it around your tongue. Don’t rush—let it coat your mouth and notice the flavors. Swallow, then wait a moment before your next sip to appreciate the aftertaste.
If it’s too strong, add a splash of water to open up the flavors. Or, toss in a big ice cube if you like it chilled, but remember, ice will dilute it as it melts.
Take your time. Whiskey is all about enjoying the complexity, not just the buzz.
