Want to See Who’s Selfish? Just Hit the Road

I often tell my friends: if you want to know how many selfish people there are in society, just go for a drive. Nothing reveals someone’s character like being behind the wheel. Driving is a social activity—it only works when everyone follows the rules. But selfish drivers put their own comfort above everything else. They slow down to search for directions with cars piling up behind them. They cruise at 90 km/h in the fast lane because that feels “safe” to them, ignoring the flow of traffic. They cut into exit lanes at the last second or block others because missing a turn is unthinkable to them. Then there’s the worst: those who use the emergency lane to skip traffic, not caring that they could be blocking ambulances. It’s all small stuff, until someone gets hurt. A considerate driver respects others even when no one’s watching. A selfish one? You’ll spot them from a mile away. Have you noticed this too?
