Thomas Woods+FollowMy grandma's house is falling apart but she refuses to leave 😵💫😵💫😵💫I am really worried about my grandma. Her mobile home from the 1970s is literally falling apart. The ceiling in the bathroom is cracked, and a beam in a bedroom has broken. There are puddles of water on the roof from dents, and the carpet is always damp. The ceiling fan in the kitchen is hanging on by just a few screws and the walls get hot when you use an outlet. The worst part is she refuses to move. She keeps saying it's all "fixable" and that she can do it herself. Her plan is to get a new roof and ignore all the electrical and interior problems. The whole place is full of mold and she has lost all of her hair in the last few months, but she doesn't think it's from the house. I have no idea what to do or where to even begin. She won't listen to me, and I am so worried for her health and safety. 😭😭😭 I am hoping someone has been through a similar situation and can tell me how to handle this. #FamilyIssues #HomeRepair #ElderCare #SafetyFirst #AdviceNeeded #HelpNeeded #Home #HomeMaintenance #HomeMaintenanceRepair 149Share
Emily Delgado+FollowHow Cincinnati is redefining elder careImagine a Cincinnati where no one grows old alone—that’s the vision Ja’Lah Willingham is bringing to life at Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly. Inspired by her grandmother’s resilience, Willingham is making sure elders in our city feel seen, valued, and connected, even if they don’t have family nearby. Under her leadership, LBFE doubled its outreach, expanded home visits, and even added a wheelchair-accessible van to reach more people. The team is small but mighty, showing that genuine connection and dignity matter just as much as any service. How can we all help make our community more inclusive for older adults? #Safety #Cincinnati #ElderCare00Share
cpeterson+Follow📱Tech Hacks to Keep Aging Parents Safe & ConnectedFound my dad covered in blood after a fall he hid from me. That's when I realized phone calls weren't enough. Here's what actually works: 1. Set up remote access on their devices NOW. You'll thank me later when they can't figure out their banking app at 9pm. 2. Never let them cancel that cell phone - every important account will need it for password resets. 3. FaceTime on speaker changed everything. They prop up the phone, I can see their screen, and we solve problems together like I'm sitting right there. 4. Switch all password recovery emails to yours. No more "I forgot my Netflix password" emergencies. 5. Make two cheat sheets: one for household/financial stuff, one for medical/personal contacts. Saves hours during actual emergencies. The video check-ins became our new normal. Sometimes seeing them matters more than just hearing their voice. What's worked for your parents? #Aging #SeniorTech #ElderCare10Share
Andrew Hutchinson+FollowCare Home Horror Stories You Won’t BelieveReading about care homes shutting down and families left with nothing but excuses is heartbreaking. One person shared how their dad died just days after being moved to a supposedly safe place, only to face neglect and a total lack of accountability. Complaints went nowhere—just a mess of denials and finger-pointing between agencies. And it’s not just one home; others in the same group are failing too. If you think reporting helps, think again. The system is seriously broken. #CareHomeCrisis #ElderCare #Accountability #Health #BodyHealth242Share
maria25+FollowWho Cashes In When You Die in Care?Ever wonder who actually profits when someone passes away in a nursing home? It’s not just the facility—Medicaid, the state, funeral homes, and even private equity firms all get a cut. Your estate could be picked apart by recovery programs, legal fees, and surprise charges. The whole system is set up to turn your final days (and dollars) into someone else’s payday. mfigueroa+FollowAntidepressants for Decades?!Did you know thousands of older folks have been on antidepressants for decades—sometimes since the 90s? Experts are worried because long-term use can mean memory issues and dangerous falls, but many GPs just keep renewing the prescriptions. Some patients say no one ever suggested coming off or trying therapy instead. Plus, withdrawal can be rough, so it’s not easy to stop. Shouldn’t there be more checks or other options for our parents and grandparents? #MentalHealth #Antidepressants #ElderCare #HealthNews #Wellbeing #Health173Share
Andrew Hutchinson+FollowNursing Homes Are Serving Solo Raviolis?!You know how everything at the grocery store is getting smaller but pricier? Turns out, that same shrinkflation is hitting nursing homes—hard. Some owners are cutting food portions to the bone (literally, one ravioli for dinner!), all while hiding profits and begging for more government money. It’s not just grandma getting scammed—it’s all of us. When did squeezing the elderly become a business model? This is beyond outrageous. Greed is running the show, and our parents are paying the price. #Shrinkflation #NursingHomes #ElderCare #Outrage #Greed #Health2445Share
james60+FollowWhen Losing Independence Feels Worse Than DeathImagine moving into long-term care and, within five years, losing the ability to make even the smallest decisions—like what to eat or wear. A new study found that 1 in 5 residents end up totally dependent, and many say this loss of independence is more distressing than dying. The takeaway? It’s crucial to talk about what quality of life really means and make your wishes known before it’s too late. Jennifer Russell+FollowIs this a secret panic button for older folks?Saw people discussing it online. My wife's 91-year-old grandmother lives with my in-laws, and they have these buttons placed really low to the floor, right by her bed and in the bathroom. When you press them, they make a sound kind of like a doorbell. It's actually a pretty smart idea that helps keep her safe. However the one thing I don't understand is why the button in the picture is inside a cabinet. That seems so inconvenient. #ElderCare #HomeSafety #AgingInPlace #FamilyCare #SmartHome #HelpfulIdeas #HomeDecor 21Share
