Spent way too much on ultralight rods, here's what I learned

Wanted to share some thoughts on UL rods after trying gear across all price ranges. I started small and slowly worked my way up— $50 → $150: HUGE sensitivity jump, totally worth it $150 → $250: decent improvement $250+: marginal gains, but might matter for pressured waters My go-to benchmark? TFO Trout & Panfish II - solid midrange that won't break the bank. I've got some high-end stuff too (Shimano Soare XR, Edge UL rods) and yeah, they're crazy sensitive. Perfect for feeling the difference between weeds and actual strikes from finicky fish. But real talk? My TFO and Daiwa Presso UL ($75 version) come on almost every trip. They give me 75-80% of that premium sensitivity in a way more forgiving package if something breaks on the trail. Build your setup incrementally - you'll know when you need that next step up. What's your UL rod sweet spot? #fishing #ultralightfishing #fishinggear

Crowded fishing spots? Hard pass unless...

Look, I get it - we all want to catch fish. But packed fishing spots just aren't my vibe unless there's something epic happening (like those insane salmon runs in remote Alaska streams). Hit a stocked trout lake on ice opener in MN once. Limited out and had fun, but only because I was learning something new. Give me a quiet spring day catfishing with a book, hauling in 10-40lb fighters. Or even better - paddling solo to a crystal-clear mountain lake in Alaska, catching small trout and cooking them over a campfire with just salt. Pure heaven, especially with someone you care about. Sometimes the best fishing isn't about the biggest catch, it's about the whole experience. Anyone else prefer solitude over crowds when fishing? #fishing #fishinglife #Outdoor
