Find the Perfect Papaya Every Time

Check the color first. You want a papaya that’s mostly yellow or orange-red. A little green is fine, but skip the ones that are totally green unless you’re planning to ripen them at home. Gently press the skin. If it gives a little, like a ripe avocado, you’re good. If it’s hard, it’s not ready. If it’s mushy or shriveled, it’s overripe. Look at the base for any mold or mildew. If you spot any, put it back. Smell the base. A faint, sweet scent means it’s ripe. No smell means it’s not ready, and a strong or funky smell means it’s past its prime. Store ripe papayas in the fridge and eat within a couple days for the best flavor. If you’ve got green ones, let them ripen at room temp, or speed it up in a paper bag with a banana. #PapayaTips #FruitShopping #TropicalFruit #Food #Cooking
