My father-in-law, who has schizophrenia, recently mailed me a number of these shiny notes. They came with no context, and I'm trying to understand them. They resemble old US gold certificates but are noticeably shiny, suggesting they are modern reproductions. I believe they are coated in 24k gold leaf, though the actual gold content is negligible, as gold leaf is extremely thin. Historically, the US issued actual gold certificates redeemable for gold until the 1930s. These originals are now collector's items, generally valued at $10 or less unless rare. I am trying to identify what these specific shiny notes are. I am also curious about their potential value.
