Berkeley's Gem Spots: La Noisette & Morell
These two bakeries are neighborhood buddies! The common point: delicious high-quality, yet hard-to-buy! This is because they primarily cater to restaurants and Farmer's Markets, and have limited opening hours. For example, La Noisette, a French dessert shop, is only open from 9 am-2 pm every Wednesday/Saturday; Morell, a grain bakery, is only open from 8:30 am-4 pm every Wednesday! All you Berkeley pals, take note! If you want to hit up both at once, best come on a Wednesday!
📍La Noisette Sweets
2701 Eighth St, Berkeley, CA 94710
About La Noisette, it's known for French sweets, but it's definitely the less sweet version of French desserts in town! The chef skillfully uses fresh fruit and veggie elements to make the desserts naturally sweet! I got the Fresh Fruit Croilette this time, at $7 each, the fig and peach flavors were amazing, bursting with juice with every bite!
📍Morell’s Bread
2701 Eighth St, Berkeley, CA 94710
Now onto Morell, it's got a bakery workshop kind of vibe with a tiny sales counter and the rest is all industrial-style kitchen space! Organic ingredients, not many options but each one is a classic! $7 each, the large grain bread has a hard crust and soft inside, with noticeable holes and gluten strands. Add some butter or cheese, it makes the perfect healthy breakfast! You can order online, pick up at the store - no tax, no tips!
Summary: These two spots perfectly illustrate the saying "good wine needs no bush", indeed good goods sell themselves! Ever since I started exploring spots, I just love hidden gems that are quietly producing high-quality flavorful food[ShyR]!
