π¨ ARREST MADE NEARLY 4 YEARS AFTER GRETCHEN FLEMING VANISHED β HUMAN REMAINS, MURDER CHARGES, AND A COMMUNITY THAT NEVER GAVE UP π¨
Parkersburg, West Virginia β After nearly four years of searching, heartbreak, and unanswered questions, authorities say there has finally been a major break in the disappearance and death of 27-year-old Gretchen Fleming.
Fleming vanished in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, 2022, after investigators say she left the My Way Lounge with 58-year-old Preston D. Pierce β the man police quickly identified as the last known person to see her alive.
β οΈ One of the earliest red flags?
π Gretchenβs purse and personal belongings were left behind at the bar.
For years:
π family members searched tirelessly
π volunteers covered woods and rural areas
π flyers spread across West Virginia
π investigators chased down tips hoping for answers
Even as the case faded from headlines, authorities say the investigation never stopped.
π November 2024 β FBI agents and Parkersburg police executed a search warrant tied to the investigation.
π September 2025 β Human remains were discovered in Wirt County.
π Genetic testing later confirmed the remains belonged to Gretchen Fleming.
Now, a Wood County grand jury has indicted Preston D. Pierce on:
π first-degree murder
π felony murder
π kidnapping
π concealment of a deceased human body
After the indictment, U.S. Marshals arrested Pierce in Asheville, North Carolina.
He is now expected to be extradited back to West Virginia to face prosecution.
π Authorities also revealed Gretchenβs father and grandmother both died before seeing an arrest made in the case.
Now, nearly four years after Gretchen vanished, the investigation has officially shifted from a missing persons case to a homicide prosecution.
