Whether you cut one inch or ten, it's still just a haircut. Why the huge price difference for more length?

Is the 'transformation cut' just a lie? I just wanted to chop off 8 inches of damaged hair. But every salon I called said it’s a “transformation cut” so the price jumped from $50+ to $104+ 😐 Apparently, if you go from long to short, it’s transformational, and that means $$$, right??
