From there, catch a marshrutka to Mestia—but here's what nobody mentions: they only run when full, and 'full' means 12 people crammed into a van built for 8. Mestia to Ushguli? Another marshrutka, but only in summer. Winter means hiring a 4WD driver for ₾150-200. Worth negotiating. The road switchbacks through mountains that look like they're still being carved.
