The Dog That Knew Better Than Us

5,500 meters up, gasping for air at Everest View Hotel, and there's this dog. Just sleeping. Completely unbothered by Ama Dablam towering behind him or the fact that we'd been hiking for six hours to get here. We're all fumbling for photos, checking altitude apps, comparing how winded we are. This guy? Dead asleep on the stone steps like it's his living room. There's something about watching a street dog nap peacefully while you're having an existential moment at the roof of the world. Like maybe the point isn't conquering anything. Maybe it's just showing up, finding your spot, and being completely okay with where you are. Even if that spot happens to be in the shadow of Everest. The mountains were incredible. But honestly?
