Suzanne Menard+Followevery single dish here is made from food given away at the food pantries. every dish I'll be making this Thanksgiving will be made with food from those pantries and I am greatful. there will be no turkey or ham or stuffing but does there need to be? there will be people that I love all around me. thank you, local food pantries, for making sure we have food! #HolidayPriceShock70Share
Donny+FollowMy first grandchild will be born in February. Back when her mother was born her mother and I figured out how to pay for birthdays and Christmas without debt. We both held low paying hourly jobs. We got paid by paper check. We cashed our checks at Money Tree. We used cash for everything. Except for the kids. Every payday we bought gift cards. 25 years ago, it was Toys r Us cards. they were perfect for everything kid all the way through high school. As the kids aged out of TrU, we bought some Walmart cards. by buying just a $25 card each paycheck we accumulated $1000 by Thanksgiving each year. both kids were born in December so December was when the cards were used up. November and December we dedicated the card money to each other's Christmas. $100 each. Unlike many of our friends, we never went into debt for Christmas. And our kids had great birthdays and Christmas. #HolidayPriceShock217Share
MPS+FollowPrices are reported to be lower and I paid less than last year for everything except celery. I would say this year I spent twenty five percent less easy. Turkey this year 49 cents last year 99 cents. Apple pie this year $3.99 last year $5.99. Potatoes 54 cents a pound and last year 95 cents a pound. Chicken broth the same price. Stuffing bread mix was more. Cranberries were more. Green beans were less. Wine was less. Coffee is more. Stop the propoganda #HolidayPriceShock133Share
Meg Barber+FollowI feel the opposite. I've seen turkeys on sale for 27 cents a pound at several grocery stores. Boxes of stuffing for $1. Jars of gravy for $2. Green beans for less than $1. Rolls for $2. Cool Whip for less than $2. It seems a lot of stores tried to have their Thanksgiving related items on sale. One needs to shop around, compare prices, not be married to brand names, etc. #HolidayPriceShock62Share
painful_truth+FollowI'm not sure why everybody is complaining about the high prices? I bought a 21 lb turkey at Meijer for 49 cents a pound with no requirement to spend an additional $25 as some places do.. and all the side fixings potatoes, cranberry, beans etc. was all under $20. I'm all in right around $30 dollars to feed 7 people and im sure there will be left overs. It pays to shop around and plan ahead to take advantage of sales if you're able to. At any rate, happy and safe holidays to all! #HolidayPriceShock6544Share
